The group of Virgin and Child with its powerful volume and its solid possession of the space by means of an assured perspective structure is undoubtedly the work of Masaccio.
By the still gothic Masolino are all the angels, very delicate in their tender forms and and pale, gentle colouring, with the exception of the one in the upper righthand curve which reveals the hand of Masaccio.
The figure of St Anne is much worn and hence to be judged with difficulty, but her hand, which seems to explore the depth of the picture-space, may well be an invention of Masaccio.
