Descent from the Cross
история:
Yet, this work is very clearly inspired by Fra Angelico's Lamentation of the Body of Christ, in its use of a hybrid genre not normally favoured by Northern artists. Rogier's picture - in which, as in Fra Angelico's, Christ's body is being held up, as if on display, by Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus - is at once a Descent from the Cross, a Pietа, and an Entombment. But although the small hillock that contains the grave is typically Italian, the landscape in the distance is a pure product of Flemish attention to detail. In retrospect, we can see that this painting constitutes an exception in his work, not a new departure.
